Unzip the files into any directory and launch the setup.exe application. The setup will guide you through the procedure step by step with a dialog-based user interface. If you run setup.exe and choose the previously used install directory, all files will be overwritten, and all customized features will be set by default. To prevent that, setup will propose a new directory such as:

C:\i-Telex-USB-6.0.5. For example, you may keep it  (recommended) or change the name. You may still copy the i-Telex-USB-6.0.5.exe file into your actual/existing directory and create a new shortcut.

The following setup example was pulled from a Windows 7 Ultimate Pro edition, installing the 6.0.2 version. You may experience some slight differences using another operating system. At the launch of setup.exe, this window will appear:

Indicating that the temporary files are copied for the installation process.

After copying all the necessary files, the setup will display this dialog, warning you to close all other running applications to prevent some system files from being written. Follow the instructions to proceed:

.

Exit the setup to close the applications that are running, or press OK if you already did so.

Setup will now display the following dialog, proposing the default directory for installing the software. You may change the name or click the Install button to proceed with the setup in the specified directory. You may leave the setup by clicking  EXIT:

As you proceed with the install procedure by clicking on the "Change Directory" button, the setup displays the following dialog, asking you which directory you want to use for the install process.

As you proceed with the installation procedure by clicking on the "Install" button, the setup displays the following dialog, asking you which program group you want the shortcut to launch the program from; you may leave the default or change it.

As you proceed with the installation procedure by clicking on the "Continue" button, the setup displays the following window indicating the installation process is underway, and the files are being copied.

If the setup procedure encounters a conflict, the following window will be displayed, asking you if you want to keep the file (maybe a customized file like the Phonebook, Configuration, Fonts, etc.) or if it should be overwritten by the setup. There may be multiple cases during installation, so be careful selecting the correct answer!!

If there occurs an error like cannot write ieframe.dll just select "ignore the error" and skip to the next point.

If all the files are copied and registered correctly, the setup will display the following window, indicating that the installation procedure was completed successfully. To finish the setup procedure, just click OK and enjoy the program!

If all the operations proceed correctly, setup will end, and you may find a shortcut in your Programs like this:

Launch the software and proceed to the first use of the program, as you may / must set some features for the program to operate correctly.

I-Telex USB / RS232 First Use of the program

As you may use the Terminal Software for the first time, you may / must set some features for the program to operate correctly.

The program at start-up reads a configuration file with some important information. If you have installed the Ethernet board, you have to enter a dial-out number to connect the i-Telex board.

The program's default is number 9.  You may have changed this number to 0 or some other one-digit number according to the above picture; then you can tell the program to use this by editing the configuration file using the built-in editor by clicking on the "Edit Config" button.

At this point, you may change only the not commented lines, those without ///. Do NOT alter the other ones!

• In the example, the dial-out number is 9; you change this as you have set it in the i-Telex board as a single-digit number from 0 to 9
• Then save these settings and proceed to "customizing". Or close the window.

I-Telex USB / RS232 Paste & Send

Copy and Paste, or better, here Paste & Send is implemented but not as usual; the text captured into the clipboard by the right mouse click is read into the program first, and all ITA2 non-conformal characters like Ä Ö Ü ß ò à è, etc. are converted into teleprinters friendly equivalent like  AE OE UE SZ o' a' e' for example. The converted text is displayed in the text window for a preview; if proven that the text is correct, it can be sent to the partner's teleprinter in an existing connection.

Procedure:

• The  "Paste-Send" key is ONLY active for existing connections!
• With an existing connection, simply mark and copy any text you like. Even a received message on the screen.
• Then click on the "Paste-Send" button.
• If necessary, interrupt with Cancel.
• The converted text is displayed in the text window as a preview before sending.
• If proven that the text is correct, it can be sent by clicking on the "Paste-Send" button again.
• If necessary, interrupt with Cancel.
• During transmission do not attempt to open or execute other tasks, the software will shut down with an error.

The clipboard text is transmitted by word wrap; every 68th character the program will insert automatically a CR + LF to prevent overshooting at the partner's teleprinter.  No check is performed (for now) on a single line of text, so there may be some excess of CR LF in the printed text.

I-Telex Rundsenden ( distribute a text message to multiple receivers with one click )

There is an option to prepare and send automatic messages using a service called "Rundsenden" There are two dedicated servers to do so. They were developed by Willy & Detlef, members of the i-Telex community. Primary to this service, you must compile the RS Receiver's Phonebook first.

The service is dialog-based and can be invoked by the two special buttons. These buttons each with a number on it to indicate the server to be used. (The real numbers can be changed in the Configuration. Both of the servers work fine; just give it a try and find out by yourself which server suits you better.

Rundsenden: These buttons invoke the Rundsenden Services at an existing connection. The procedure is dialog-based, and there is a help function once connected; just follow the instructions.  After confirming your own number and type of Rundsenden (direct or time shift) the program will proceed automatically to transmit the receiver's number list. After that, you will be prompted to send whatever you want. Close the dialog with +++ when you are done.

As you click on one of the two buttons, the program connects automatically to the dedicated server and starts a dialog.

In this example, I used the server from Detlef, just a random choice.

You will be asked to confirm your own number or correct it if it is wrong. (66545) Then send a CR WR.

Then the server asks you to specify the direct or timeshift mode to send your message. D/Z/? Type the desired letter.

In this example, I decided to use Time Shift transmission. (Z) Now the server prompts you for further action. In this case, you should now transmit the list of receiver numbers but the JTerm will take care of that automatically because it waits for the (ende mit +++): prompt, as can be seen in the picture below.

After transmitting all the receiver numbers, the server waits until you send some text. After displaying the last receiver number, 69558+, the text can be the header, the RS Receiver List, your already prepared message, or anything else you may write at the moment. If you write in real time, please end your text with +++ to end the connection.

In this example, I send the Receivers List in alphabetical order so all receivers know who else got this message too. After completing this step, I decided to send one of the three headers too.

After sending the header, I proceeded to send the message itself. After you send all the items you prepared, you must now end the transmission by typing +++, or if your message's last line was already +++ the server will quit with a message.

Now the server will elaborate all of the items you sent, and start to transmit to all the listed receivers. To get an idea of how all is going, the server will send you a list of all the receivers and their contact information, such as N.C. Not connected, or other information that tells you who did indeed receive the message and who did not.

At this point, you may decide to send the message by yourself to each of the receivers that weren't online at that moment or had some other issues.

If you may experience any issues with this service, please contact the developer (Detlef or Willy) by telex. If you have some issues with the program using Rundsenden, just contact me at 380170.

Criticism, changes, improvement ideas, or else are welcome.

I-Telex USB / RS232 Rundsenden Phonebook

The program has a built-in Rundsenden phonebook that can be displayed using the RS-Phonebook button, and then a window opens, like the picture below showing an already updated and edited Rundsenden phonebook.

To use this Rundsende phonebook, you can choose from several options:

• Set Rundsende Receiver: You can define up to 30 favorite i-Telex numbers that will be saved as the RS-Receiver list and RS Receiver numbers. Click on the left-hand checkbox, and the entry turns green as proof you set this number as a favorite. To undo this, just click the left-hand checkbox again.
• Exit:  This button exits the Rundsende phonebook without saving anything.
• Save: This button saves the chosen receivers and sets the Receivers-List, which will be displayed here afterward, so you can check if all seems correct as you wanted.

• Now the Receivers List is displayed as the picture above shows. When you exit now a new window opens, which displays the Receivers-Numbers as you can see in the picture below. You can exit this display, and all the changed data will be saved.
• Do not change this list, it is for display and control only.

Before you close the window, be sure to save the changed phonebook entries. After closing the phonebook, press REFRESH to update the Favourite list.

(TOP)

The program's text window displays all the information and receives and sends text and system-related messages. During an active i-Telex connection, as you write, a character counter and a colored ruler trace how many keystrokes are entered. To prevent overshooting the page at your partner's teleprinter, this counter and ruler advise you on the actual state.

• • Character count from 1 to 55 (default) will color the ruler green.
  • Character count over 55 (default) will turn the ruler yellow.
  • Character count over 65 (default) will ring the bell once and color the ruler red.
  • Character count at 68 (default) will insert automatically CR + LF and reset the ruler and counter.

You can clear the text window at any time using the Clear Text button.

You can also change the font of the text window by pressing the Font button. Changes will last only for the current session; at start-up the program returns to its default font stg 100 f.e. the Siemens T100 font emulation.

I-Telex USB / RS232 Human Readable Punch Tape

There is an option to make your own human-readable punch tapes as shown in the example below, with the WYSIWYG interface.

This piece of tape was made on an RFT F2000 teleprinter, and this one makes the correct spaces. If a Siemens T1000z  does not make the spaces at all, you can change the settings on the Variant Board at Position 32; this will set the machine to make the code 32 correctly. So the final result depends on the type and settings of the teleprinter used. To start, make a call to the desired teleprinter, switch on the puncher, and then press the Punch Tape button and type your text into the input box.

Don't use "fancy" characters because they will not be printed or will be printed incorrectly. All ITA2 characters can be used.  Then press OK, and the text will be transformed into human-readable form and punched on tape. Remember that by sending the text to a "real" teleprinter, the lack or abuse of CR and LF characters can compromise the print results. On some machines, you can switch on the puncher remotely by sending CCCC and turning it off with FFFF.

I-Telex USB / RS232 Automatic Response with KLKL

There is an option to prepare and send an automatic response on KLKL sent by your teleprinter partner even if you are away. To activate or disable this option, just click on KLKL key, and it will turn green if it is active or white if it is disabled. In the application path, there is a text file called klkl.txt. This file can be edited with your own text, and it will be transmitted automatically each time your teleprinter partner types klkl at the existing connection.

If you are reading registered messages, be sure to disable the KLKL option as it may result in an unwanted automatic response.

You can change this KLKL message whenever you want by invoking the KLKL Editor.
